Artist’s statement
Good Ol’ Days is a tribute to the time I spent in NAFA, as I remember the old and rustic objects that were found in our studio, some of which inspired me when I was a student. I loved the emotive aspect of surrealism and I drew myself away from logic to create distortion between what’s real and unreal, resulting in multiple viewpoints and layers in the painting.
The broken vases and segmented objects represent the fading of a memory and the inspirations which I once had. The unworldly size of the hand holding a brush is my attempt at creating these objects and depicting the sentiments attached to them. While the imagery in my mind has become less vivid, the impression of them still lingers and brings me fondness and inspiration whenever I revisit the memory.
