About Lim Mu Hue

Lim Mu Hue was born in 1936, Singapore. He trained Western painting at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and graduated in 1955. In the 1960s, Lim devoted his time to teaching art at his alma mater before taking on an art editorial role with Nanyang Siang Pau, creating cartoons and illustrations for the news publication. In the 1970s, Lim served as an Honorary Consultant at the Lee Kong Chian Art Museum at Nanyang University. In 2001, Lim took on the position of Senior Researcher at Xu Bei Hong Memorial Hall in Nanjing, China, before becoming a Visiting Professor at the Inner Mongolian Eastern Cultural Museum in China the following year.

While Lim creates in a variety of medium, including woodcut, oil, and ink, he is best known for his intricate draughtsmanship and elaborate woodblock prints. Lim has exhibited in many group exhibitions, locally and abroad, throughout his career. These include the First Asian Youth Artist Exhibition in Japan in 1957, A Century of Art in Singapore at the Singapore Art Museum in 1996, and in 2005, a joint art exhibition with his daughter Lim Chwen in California. In 2006, Lim was commissioned to create his largest mural installation at the Esplanade MRT station titled Let the Show Begin... Lim passed away in 2008 after the completion of this final commission.
