About Lee Boon Wang
Lee Boon Wang (1934 - 2016) graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1953 and lectured at the academy from 1955 to 1956. He was one of the founders of the Equator Art Society which deflected societal issues through realist art. Lee became a full-time artist in 1973. In 1982, Lee was awarded the Singapore Distinction Art Award and in 1989, he was the first Singaporean commissioned to paint the Royal Family of Brunei.12 of his paintings were collected by the Sultan of Brunei and his family. A realist painter, Lee’s early works have become documentations of a period of time in Singapore’s history.

Lee has held several solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Singapore, New York, Moscow and Brunei. Many of his paintings have been acquired by the National Gallery Singapore. Lee Boon Wang held his last solo exhibition in 2016 and passed away in the same year. Lee is the brother of former Cabinet minister Lee Boon Yang, and artist Lee Boon Ngan who is married to Cultural Medallion artist Chua Mia Tee.
